Bizman’s Rs 56 L car tax sets state record
Businessman Babu Moopan on Saturday made a hefty Rs 56.7 lakh payment at the Ernakulam RTO, making it the highest recorded vehicle tax remitted in the state.
The managing director of Nippon Toyota Limited remitted the tax for his new imported black Bentley Mulsanne.
The flashy Rs 3.7 crore worth property was shipped in from the United Kingdom last week and the huge tax was levied as 15 per cent of the vehicle cost.
Though this is not the costliest car in the state, it resulted in the highest tax payment due to
recent revision in vehicle tax by the government, pointed out Ernakulam RTO B.J. Antony.
Chairman of SCMS Group of educational institutions, Dr GPC Nayar, a few months ago had paid Rs 24,39,600 as tax for his Rolls Royce which cost him Rs 4.7 crore.
“We are trying for a fancy number for this vehicle and will participate in the next auction for it in the BW-01 series,” said a source close to Mr Moopan.
