Billboards: Mayor assures probe
A probe will be conducted into alleged corruption in allotting the right to erect advertisement boards in the city to a private company, mayor Tony Chammany said on Saturday.
The standing committee chairpersons of finance and town planning would probe the matter and submit a report based on which action would be taken against those responsible, he said, while responding to the allegation by Opposition members during a council meet.
A private firm was allotted the contract to set up advertisement boards on electric posts at various parts of the city for Rs 58 lakhs.
One of the conditions was that the whole amount should be remitted by March last. But till now the firm has only paid Rs 10 lakh, the Opposition alleged.
The council that took up the issue of film shooting in corporation limits insisted that the mandatory fees should be paid to the local body by the film-makers.
