84-year-old keeper of 4,000 magazines
A magazine titled MN Nair! This monthly was brought out by Nair Service Society (NSS) in memory of its founder leaders and edited by writer Kainikkara Kumara Pillai.
The late e.m.s. Namboodiripad began his autobiography in Unni-namboodiri a magazine of the Namboodiri community. One of Malayalam’s greatest writers O.V. Vijayan’s first story Parajithan published in the 1950 August edition of the magazine Kalanidhi. Former CPM leader K.R. Gouri found her way to be on the cover of the magazine Edathupaksham in one of its issues in 1951.
These tales were revealed by P.K. Narendra Dev. The 84-year-old was present at the venue with his collection of more than 4,000 magazines.
“My biggest problem is keeping them safe which is a costly affair,” says Narendra Dev who lives at Tiru-maradi near Kooth-attukulam. He has also worked with Sahitya Pra-varthaka Sahakarana Sangam from where he retired years ago. It was in 1957 that he held his first exhibition during the state conference of Sahitya Pari-shad at Kottayam.
