30 girls await conversion: Girl tells HC
A 19-year-old girl, involved in a habeas corpus petition, submitted before the Kerala high court on Tuesday that about 30 girls belonging to various religions are undergoing religious education at an institution called ‘Sathyasarani’ in Manjeri.
The Hindu girl, who was converted to Islam after she eloped with one Mohammad Hassan, deposed before the court that her nikah was held at Kondotty.
The girl went missing from June 6. The father of the girl urged the court to conduct an inquiry into the missing of 42 girls from Manjeri who, he said, were admitted to the religious institution.
A division bench comprising Justices K.T. Sankaran and M.L. Joseph Francis sent the girl to the Santhinikethan hostel in Kochi.
The court passed the order after the girl’s father challenged the “illegal custody” of the girl by Muhammed Hassan.
“Practically, she knows nothing about conversion to another religion and the girl is not capable of taking independent decisions.
The girl is thoroughly confused (but) is giving rational answers to thequestions of the court,” the bench held.
Hassan, allegedly an NDF activist, submitted that he took the girl to Maunathil Islam, Ponnani, for converting her to Islam but they returned from that place as it was not safe being there.
prepared to marry her provided she converted to Islam.
