2 held for cheating doc of Rs 1.48 lakh
The Kochi city police on Thursday arrested two people from Hyderabad for allegedly siphoning off money worth Rs 1.08 lakh from a doctor here, using fake emails.
In an earlier case, the police had arrested six people from Hyderabad for stealing money online from the bank account of a doctor at Lakeshore hospital.
The arrested were identified as Sujith Kumar and Swaraj. The police refused to give the details of the doctor. The cheating took place last year.
According to the police, one of the racketeers introduced himself to the doctor through web chatting telling him that his sister was the doctor’s patient and that she had been cured of her ailment.
Later, the racketeer offered the doctor a Tata Nano car at a cheap price. Trusting the racketeer, the doctor transferred Rs 40,000 to his bank account.
Later, the swindler told the doctor that the Nano was no longer available and instead offered a luxury car for Rs 1.08 lakh. The doctor remitted the additional amount to his account and waited for his reply.
However, the racketeer never got back to him, and the doctor realised that he had been cheated. The case registered at the Kadavanthara police station was investigated by the Crime Detachment Cell.
The arrested were presented before the court and remanded in police custody.More people are involved in the scam and the police are investigating the matter.
