16-year-old On the write path
It is an unusual theme for a novel and the 16-year-old tries to throw light on superstitions through The Ruby Mermaid.
“I dedicate this book to J.K. Rowling, the writer who inspired me the most and creator of Harry, Ron, Hermione and Hogwarts.”
A 12th standard student of Kadayiruppu St Peter’s school, Preetha Gopinath's book was released at a function by Justice K. Sukumaran. The novel is a fantasy dealing with teenage life with its range of emotions.
Besides Rowling, Shelly and Chetan Bhagat are her other two favourite authors. “When it comes to writing, my friends are my main supporters.
I usually discuss my characters with them when they start forming in my mind. They listen to my ideas and give suggestions.
My parents support me but they want me to be a chartered accountant. But I don't want to spoil my life as an accountant. I want to explore the world of books,” says Preetha, who is already into her next book called Cherry Blossom.
Besides writing, she also takes part in dancing and debates.
