Youthful teachers to beat summer blues
Youngsters are getting extremely creative this summer. They are no longer just a bunch of young kids who spend their holidays with friends or waste time at home lazing around. Of late, numerous teens are opting for different jobs to fund their outings with friends or to save money for their future projects. These youngsters are learning craft, art, taking dance classes and in turn teaching all these activities to those who may be interested to make some pocket money.
Sandeep Bafna, an economics student, has learnt mural painting, wood and photo framing from Pune and Hyderabad and is now teaching the same to people of all age groups. He says, “People want to learn different kinds of art from various parts of the country. When I started my classes, a lot of people wanted to learn Hyderabad card making, pot making and wall clock making.”
Vishaka Mittal, a communication student, learnt how to fashion art from paper while on a trip to Mumbai. When I went to Mumbai for my last trip, I learnt the art of making paper quilling, iris cards and other crafts to do with paper. After coming down to Chennai, I started conducting classes and realised it made me good pocket money. Once I get back to college, I don’t need to ask my parents to spend on me and this builds my self-confidence as well.”
Vishaka also teaches dance along with her sister and says, “I charge from Rs 500 onwards and now since it’s the summer season, we have plenty of students.”
Aarthi Prakash, an engineering student who enjoys art classes, loves the fact that she learns different art forms from around the country. She says, “I love glass painting and wanted to learn it. I heard of these crash courses and it really helped, since they are taught by youngsters who can teach us in the way we understand.”
Aarthi also says that these kind of classes don’t cost much. “Unlike other professional classes, these don’t cost a bomb and it inspires a lot of young people to join them.”
