Touching the future
For a change, here’s an interesting futuristic touch media device named Magnum from our very own Indian manufacturer, LACS. Available with a considerably wide touch screen of 12.7 cm x 10.7 cm, the device has storage capabilities up to 32 GB and sports a media hub for audio and video, games and Bluetooth connectivity.
Small enough to carry in your pocket, Magnum can be paired with a GPRS-enabled mobile phone to surf the Internet on a larger touch screen or take and make calls while on the move. From watching live cricket to your favourite soaps, the touch screen technology is quite user-friendly and tailor-made to take tough Indian use.
Apart from viewing a range of file formats (.doc, .pdf, and .xls), you can zoom right into your documents to read them easily. You can also organise video, photo, music files in all the popular formats. The device can be used as a satellite-based navigator with up to date maps and a state of the art engine that gives you voice based directions in multiple Indian languages. Other added features include six preloaded touch games, Radio DJ, tools, a calculator, torch light and alarm. However, one does rue the absence of a camera along with the product’s inability to function as an independent mobile phone.
