You’ve admired them, drooled over them and been their loyal fan for long. One fine day, you get to know that the actor you swooned over is gay. Heartbreak for the girls? Well, being gay isn’t a big deal as a lot of fans still admire their favourite stars and like them just the way they are!
Student Shivani Jagan says Neil Patrick Harris, who plays Barney Stinson in How I Met Your Mother, is her favourite gay actor. “He’s really cool and the fact that he’s gay doesn’t change my admiration for him. Neil’s role in HIMYM is amazing.” Neil has been appreciated by fans all across the world for his portrayal as the womanising and ‘legendary Stinson!
For 18-year-old Raksha Bysani, White Collar star Mathew Bomer has to be the most good looking gay man ever! “I was honestly shocked when I found out that he was gay. But that doesn’t alter my outlook towards him. I still choose to believe that he’s not gay,” she laughs. Although Mathew has never spoken openly about being gay, he did admit on a recent show that he has been raising three kids.
Raksha adds, “Youngsters here are starting to accept it and we’re all cool if a celebrity turns out to be homosexual. If I had a gay friend, it wouldn’t change the fact that he’s my friend!”
Another well-known icon who is homosexual is talk show host Ellen DeGeneres, who is married to actress Porta de Rossi. “Ellen is such a cool celebrity. I really admire her show and I think she’s really funny. Another gay celebrity I admire is singer Adam Lambert whose music I have been following since his American Idol days,” says student Kirthana K.
Singer Darren Hayes of Savage Garden fame, Zachary Quinto who starred in Heroes and Star Trek, Latino singer Ricky Martin, interior designer Nate Berkus and actress Lindsay Lohan are some of the other teen picks!
Says TV buff Nishita K, “I think Chris Colfer, who stars in Glee as Kurt Hummel is immensely talented. He may not be a typical hottie, but he’s cute!”

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
