The summer heat is almost killing you and you’re tempted to dress up in a sleeveless kurti or cargoes to beat the heat. But alas! You can’t do such things as you have a dress code to stick to in college! Students have come up with their own ways to feel a little less hot this summer and they manage to remain stylish despite their dress codes.
Neha Belthur, a student of RV College of Engineering tells us how she and her friends dress up to college during summer. “Firstly, we aren’t allowed to wear sleeveless and capris. So we go in for short sleeves or cap sleeves. We opt for light and summery colours and of course cotton, when it comes to kurtas. We don’t wear high neck or collared shirts or kurtas ‘cos it’s summer.
We also wear flip flops,” she says. While choosing a T-shirt too, they opt for light colours and cap sleeves. When it comes to hair and accessories, she says, “We don’t leave our hair open as it’s too hot. We tie it up and try various hairstyles, we experiment with our hair. Accessories like bangles are irritating due to the heat, so I avoid it. I prefer to wear dangling earrings which suit my tied up hair.” Neha and her friends even wear hats and carry umbrellas to beat the heat in college.
For student Harsha Priyadarshi, who isn’t allowed to wear 3/4th pants and sleeveless shirts in college, loose fitting and light coloured clothes are what he prefers. “Don’t wear dark colours or synthetic. I avoid wearing black, especially ‘cos we play a lot on the field in the heat. Even cargoes are comfortable during summer. I usually go for jeans and a round neck T-shirt, it’s better to avoid collared shirts during summer. As for the hair, just get a short summer cut, so that it requires no maintenance,” he says.
But for information science student Gopi Kamatar, the restrictions in his college PESIT are just too many. “We have to wear only collared T-shirts and the shirt shouldn’t have any prints on it. We’re not allowed to wear cargoes, which is really sad as they can be really comfortable during summer. Sleeveless T-shirts and 3/4th pants are banned too,” he says, adding, “During summer, I don’t wear black. I wear white or any light coloured T-shirt along with a pair of jeans,” he says.
Vibrant colours are what BA student Sanjana Kumar opts for while dressing up to college during summer. Their college has a dress code of ‘only Indian wear’, so she opts for vibrant kurtis. “You can experiment with your hair style during summer; you can try different ponytails or plait your hair. I also incorporate huge earrings,” she says.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.
