Abuse a cop, ride a horse
Seventeen-year-old Sandeep Prabhakar has his list of New Year resolutions stuck on the mirror, just so that he doesn’t forget them. Recollecting what he did last year, he says, “I planned to lose three kilos, go gym regularly and study for at least three hours a day — utterly boring and clearly impossible. This year, I have a new list of resolutions that defines who I really am.”
Teens have decided to bid goodbye to the usual ‘goody-two-shoes’ resolutions with a resolve to live life on their own terms. “I plan to pet a hamster, abuse a corrupt cop at least once and sing classical music at a rock show. My friends think that I am joking but I am serious about this,” elaborates Sandeep.
Movies also seem to be quiet an inspiration for all the frustrated students. “I”m inspired by what Sharman Joshi did in 3 Idiots,” quips Dinesh Pandyan, a first year engineering student, “I have this very annoying professor who does nothing but yell at us. My New Year resolution is to take ‘revenge’ against this professor,” he laughs.
Some of Papa’s little angels feel 2011 is the perfect opportunity to break their stereotyped image. “I’ve always been my daddy’s little angel and none of my friends include me in their adventure. This time I’ve decided to do something really crazy like maybe go horse riding by myself,” says Sonia M., who sheepishly admits that she can’t even bring herself to learn how to drive a two-wheeler.
“There is no point in keeping resolutions that you dread to fulfill. I kept my word by driving an autorickshaw in 2010. This year will be dedicated to trying out all the wacky cuisines in the world,” says Poornima Jaganathan, a 19-year-old visual communication student.
