Zardari visits Sri Lankan Parliament
Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari visited Sri Lankan Parliament on Monday, on the third day of his four day official visit to the country.
Mr Zardari was welcomed by Speaker Chamal Rajapksa at Parliament and later attended a meeting of the Sri Lanka Pakistan parliamentarians friendship association, parliamentary officials said.
"The President met with MPs in the Sri Lankan Parliament," Pakistani high commission officials said.
"Two countries have common positions on many matters at regional and multilateral forums and relations can be strengthened through the Sri Lanka-Pakistan parliamentarians' friendship association" Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapakse said after meeting Mr Zardari last evening, the president office here said.
The Pakistani President is scheduled to preside a high-level business forum later in the afternoon on Monday, the Pakistan high commission said.
Both countries have already agreed to further cooperation on economic and trade relations between South Asian nations.
"High water mark of the meetings was a decision to reinvigorate the joint economic commission and task it to work out modalities for a new and unconventional phase of economic cooperation marked by barter trade, currency exchange and banking interchanges" Pakistani presidential spokesperson Farhatullah Babar said briefing journalists on Sunday after two state leaders meeting.
