Woman's 'pregnancy with nine' claim debunked
A Mexican official on Friday denied a woman's claims that she was due to give birth to nine babies in the coming weeks.
"She is not pregnant," Jorge Luna, secretary of health in the northern state of Coahuila, said after authorities carried examined the woman's claims to local media.
Karla Vanessa Perez Garcia and her husband, mechanic Juan Bernardo Morales, already have four children. Three of them were triplets born last November.
"I feel different because there are nine of them... hopefully everything goes well," Perez told Televisa.
Luna also cast doubt that the woman, who is obese, ever gave birth to triplets.
"They have three children, but they are 4, 12, and 15 years old," he said.
The 32-year-old woman had said she learned she was carrying nine fetuses in January, when she was four months pregnant, and claimed doctors scheduled a Caesarean section for May 20. She lives in the town or Arteaga in Coahuila.
The woman's claims, which made headlines around the world, had prompted Mexican authorities to pledge help for the couple after the birth.
