Woman jailed for killing man while chasing boyfriend
A British schoolteacher has been sentenced to two years in prison for running down a pedestrian while chasing her cheating boyfriend through a red light.
Claire Johnson, 25, raced after Russell Bennett in her car after noticing him leave work with his boss. Johnson had staked out the Mexican restaurant where the pair worked after friends told her they were having an affair, Daily Express reported.
As Bennett realised Johnson was following, he sped away with Lisa Kearney in his car, a court heard.
Learner driver Bennett, 24, jumped three red lights and raced down the wrong side of the road in a desperate bid to stop the two women from meeting.
Johnson had tried to make him pull over by flashing her headlights and calling his mobile phone. But the chase came to an end only when Johnson rammed into 22-year-old Matthew Bailey who was crossing the road with friends after a night out.
Portsmouth Crown Court heard she did not brake or swerve out of the way as she collided with Bailey at between 42 and 49 mph.
