US woman becomes cheerleader at 42-years of age
A woman in the US has become a cheerleader at the age of 42 – twice the age of the rest of her team.
Laura Vikmanis, who looks very youthful for her age with her bouncy blonde hair, and a figure that would be the envy of most women, cheers on the Cincinnati Bengals American football side.
Now her story about how she became the US National Football League’s oldest cheerleader is set to be made into a Hollywood film.
Vikmanis, who is the mother of two girls, aged 14 and 12, was approaching her 40th birthday when she realised she was “feeling lost” after her husband left her for a younger woman.
So she tried out for the squad aged 39, but was rejected.
As a registered dietician she had always been into fitness – but motherhood and her busy schedule had taken their toll on her health and weight.
Concentrating on her fitness, she made it to the cheerleading team the following year.
“I look at myself as a role model for my children to show them no matter what age or what dream you have, you can work really hard and achieve it,” the Daily Express quoted her as saying.
