Twins Katia and Bianca Ugarte were born in different years, after arriving on either side of midnight on New Year’s Eve.

Katia was born at 11.40pm on December 31 and her sister arrived at 12.07am on January 1, the Daily Express reported.

Their mother Macarena Leon, 31, from Manchester, said friends had bet whether the babies would be born in 2011 or 2012.

“But no-one could have guessed what would happen,” she said.
