UK school to ban skirts for girls as it ‘could put pupils off their studies’!
A UK school is set to ban skirts for girls, fearing that they are too short and 'could put pupils off their studies.'
From September girls at Nailsea School near Bristol can only wear trousers amid concerns that pupils were wearing increasingly shorter skirts to lessons.
Students who continue to flout the rules have been warned that unless they fall into line they will have to leave.
The decision was made at a special governor's meeting called over worries that girls were ignoring uniform policy, and it is not the first clothing ban they have enforced.
To the fury of parents in 2009 the school stopped pupils wearing 'Miss Sexy' branded trousers because they were too tight and often showed an outline of a pupil's underwear through them.
“After a vigorous debate, it was decided by an overwhelming majority, that in order to enable all students to participate fully in the learning activities, trousers represent a much more practical option,” the Daily Mail quoted Headteacher David New as saying.
“Since September 2009, the school has been encouraging students to wear their new school uniform appropriately.
“After consistent warnings, and clear indications on the school website, about the consequences of flouting the rules, the school governors have decided that taking skirts out of the option will make life simpler for parents and teachers alike,” added New.
