UK hacking inquiry to recall Murdoch Jr
News International chairman James Murdoch is being recalled to give fresh testimony to the House of Commons select committee investigating phone hacking at the now defunct News of The World tabloid.
Mr Murdoch, who with his father, News Corp chairman Rupert Murdoch, appeared before the culture, media, sport select committee in July, will be grilled by MPs about the testimony earlier by former NoTW legal manager Tom Crone and former editor Colin Myler that James had been informed by them about the email that proved phone-hacking was not confined to one reporter only in the weekly tabloid.
James and Rupert Murdoch had in their testimony to the Commons committee in July insisted that they did not know that phone-hacking was in widespread use at the tabloid.
After the questioning of Mr Crone and Mr Myler on September 6, James Murdoch had issued a statement reiterated that he stood by his testimony and denied the claims made by the former NoTW employees.
The news of Mr James Murdoch’s recall by the Commons committee comes as the mother of a victim of July 7, 2005 London bombings took legal action against the News of the World over phone-hacking allegations. The details about this legal claim were disclosed in the high court on Tuesday.
Scotland Yard has finally got a new commissioner after the resignation of Sir Paul Stephenson in July over the phone-hacking issue.
The new Met police commissioner is Bernard Hogan-Howe, who had been seconded to Scotland Yard as a deputy commissioner after the sudden departure of Sir Paul.
