UAE court okays wife beating

A man can physically discipline wife and children as long as he doesn't leave marks on their body according to Islamic Sharia law, a UAE court has ruled.

The verdict was out in the case of a man who had reportedly beaten his wife and daughter, injuring both. However, the federal court in the capital of UAE - Abu Dhabi - ruled the man from Sharjah was justified because he had 'exhausted other options - admonition and then abstaining from sleeping with his wife.

The court also added children who have reached adulthood can no longer be beaten.
