Two injured in toxic gas leak in China
Two persons were injured when toxic gas leaked from a ruptured pipe at a chemical factory in northwest China, state media reported on Friday.
Liquid ammonia leaked into the air after a transfer tube cracked, exposing a ten-centimetre fissure in northwest China's Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region.
The accident occurred while the gas was being transferred from a truck to a storage tank in Helan County of the provincial capital Yinchuan at around 6.30 pm local time, officials said.
After the leak a pungent odour could be detected in the air about one mile from the site.
"I couldn't open my eyes and then felt dizzy," Zhu Fangfang, a resident in the area who experienced breathing problems said.
Victims of the gas leak are reported to be out of danger.
"The two injured people are fine now," Gao Zhihu, head of the county People's Hospital told the official Xinhua news agency.
The liquid ammonia was used for food refrigeration units at the Yishunyuan Agriculture Industry and Trade Co Ltd.
