Two held over parcel bomb sent to MI6 HQ

Aug 1: The British police has arrested two men, aged 52 years and 21 years, and is questioning them over a parcel bomb that was sent to the office of MI6 at Vauxhall in South London. The two men were arrested by the Metropolitan police at separate addresses in Caernarfon, North Wales, on Friday. They were moved to London on Saturday and are still being questioned about the parcel bombs under Section 4 of the Explosives Act.

“The Metropolitan Police Service is investigating two suspect packages addressed to premises in central London. Both packages have been recovered by police,” the police said.

A suspicious package was found at the office of Britain’s foreign intelligence agency building in Vauxhall and the police was informed at around 12.40 pm on Wednesday afternoon. A second suspected parcel bomb was discovered at a sorting office in south London at around 4.30 am on Thursday.

There has been speculation in the British media that the second bomb was addressed to the Prime Minister’s Office at 10 Downing Street.

No details have also been released by the police about the two men who are being questioned in the case. However, Wales on Sunday reported that the two men are father and son of Asian origin. Some media reports have claim that the two men are of Pakistani origin. The police has been searching two addresses at Caernarfon in connection with the arrests. There are no details if any evidence has been gathered by them.
