Top archery coach killed in highway road mishap
Top Indian archery coach Cherukuri Lenin, who brought laurels to Vijayawada, Andhra and the country when two archers he had coached won silver medals at the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi, died tragically in a road accident in the early hours of Sunday in Ibrahimpatnam mandal, 30 km from Hyderabad. He was only 25 and yet to fulfil his dream of coaching an Olympic champion.
Lenin was driving to Vijayawada from Hyder-abad after being felicitated by Andhra Pradesh governor E.S.L. Narasimhan and chief minister K. Rosaiah for the good showing of his boys at the Commonwealth Games. He was accompanied by one of them, Ritul Chatterjee, his father Cherukuru Satyanarayana, and a friend Kalyan.
The accident occurred on the national highway near Jupudi village as Lenin swerved to avoid an oncoming autorickshaw and hit a road divider.
He sustained grievous chest injuries and died around 2.30 am. The others were unhurt. As Lenin’s body was brought to his home, his grieving father vowed to fulfil his son’s dream: “Students of Volga Archery Academy will win a gold medal in the 2012 Olympics to pay homage to their departed coach.”

Assam: 3 die in firing after Bodo attacks

Oct. 24: Three persons were killed and several others wounded in police firing at Rangiya Tiniali Saturday night after a group of youth belonging to the All-Bodo Minority Students Union attacked and vandalised shops, houses and markets. Tension continued in the area on Sunday, with hundreds of local residents going on an impromptu demonstration to denounce the police firing.
Kamrup district SP Parthsarathi Mahanta, who is camping in the area, said: “The situation is fast returning to normal although there is some tension in the area.” He said that the police was forced to open fire to control the situation.
The vandalism was a backlash after an alleged assault on ABMSU members by local residents.
