Strong quakes strike off northern Japan: USGS
A strong 6.2-magnitude quake struck off northern Japan on Tuesday but there are no immediate reports of major damage and no tsunami alert was issued, US seismologists said.
It hit at 7:21 am (2221 GMT Monday) in waters 96 kilometres (60 miles) east of Miyako on the main island of Honshu at a shallow depth of 9.7 kilometres, according to the US Geological Survey.
