Qantas second plane makes emergency landing in Singapore

Engine trouble forced another Qantas jumbo jet to make an emergency landing in Singapore, just a day after the airline's A380 superjumbo was forced to turn back after a mid-air explosion in one of its four engines.

The Sydney-bound Boeing 747-400, with 412 passengers on board, returned shortly after taking off from Singapore to Sydney after experiencing engine trouble, 'The Straits Times' reported today.

Fire engines and ambulances were put on standby at Singapore's Changi Airport but the plane managed to embark safely at an aerobridge minutes after take-off due to a problem with one of its engines.

Just like Qantas' November 4 flight, QF32, last night's QF6, using Boeing 747-400, had dumped fuel before returning to the airport here. Qantas website showed QF6 is a daily flight between Frankfurt and Sydney with a stopover in Singapore.

Ranjan Sivagnanasumdaram, a Sri Lankan-born Australian national on the flight, said passengers were asked to put their heads down for about 20 minutes as the plane circled to dump fuel. "They (the passengers) were not panicking, so there was not much chaos," he was quoted as saying.
