Pamela's new ad branded 'sexist', banned in Canada
'Baywatch' star Pamela Anderson, new ad campaign for animal rights group, Peta has branded as 'sexist' and banned by officials in Canada.
Anderson flew into Montreal on Thursday all set to unveil new ad but the ex-Baywatch beauty learnt at the last minute that the required permit had been refused by local officials, who rated the ad as 'sexist', Daily mail online reported. Canada-born Anderson, 43, was shocked by the ban decision and said, "In a city that is known for it's exotic dancing and for being progressive and edgy, how sad that a woman would be banned from using her own body in a political protest."
"In some parts of the world women are forced to cover their whole bodies with burqas- is that next? I didn't think Canada would be so puritanical," she added.
Peta's senior Vice President, Dan Matthews said, "I think that city officials are looking at this lovely ad and confusing 'sexy' with 'sexist'" In the ad Anderson's nearly naked body, clad in a bikini, is covered in paint markings that mimic a butcher's diagram.
Her flesh is marked 'breast', 'ribs' and 'rump' and the caption reads 'All animals have the same parts. Have a heart, go vegetarian'. "I have to inform you that we, as public officials representing a municipal government can not endorse this image of Anderson. It is not so much controversial as it goes against all principles public organizations are fighting for in the everlasting battle of equality between men and women," a city spokesman informed Peta of their decision, saying in a statement.
