Oz college with 450 Indians shut
An Adelaide-based college with over 450 Indian students has been finally shut down after it failed audits of the government on standards of education it was offering.
According to ABC report, the South Australian government cancelled the registration of an international college which failed audits this year. State education minister Jack Snelling told state Parliament that the Adelaide Pacific International College (APIC) in Currie Street is no longer registered to operate.
The report said it had as many as 450 students who had come to Adelaide from India.
APIC said recently the police was also investigating alleged fraud by a former senior employee.
Department of further education alleged the college failed to comply with 12 of 14 standards when an audit was done in March. Indian students are the second largest group of foreign students in Australian after those from China.

Romania journo held on blackmail charges
Bucharest, June 23: Romania’s most notorious television journalist and his producer were formally arrested early on Wednesday and detained for 29 days on charges of blackmailing and threatening a mayor. Dan Diaconescu and producer Doru Parv were arrested after a seven-hour overnight court hearing.
They are charged with demanding money from Ion Motz, the mayor of Zarand village, to avoid broadcasting compromising material about him. Mr Motz claims he paid the two defendants about $37,000 after Diaconescu’s popular OTV TV channel broadcast a promo in 2009 promising scurrilous details about Mr Motz’s personal and professional activity. —AP
