As soon as the news broke that the most wanted terrorist, Al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden was shot dead by the US forces, the Web went mega active with social networking sites being flooded with interesting updates. We take a look at some quirky and interesting statements doing the rounds of the virtual world.

It was a moment of justice being done for many when they learned that Osama bin Laden had been traced and killed by the US troops. Film director Anurag Basu tweeted, “Bin Laden’s demise marks the beginning of the end of terrorism at a time when democracy is spreading throughout the Middle East.”

Filmmaker Shekhar Kapur tweeted, “Osama became the mythical dark force that the US rallied against. It no longer matters that he is/was dead or alive.”

When US President Barack Obama declared that “justice is done” after Osama’s death, some found it tough to believe.

Many questioned the credibility of the news and speculated whether it was an eyewash.

Mubashir Quadri, a DC Facebook follower posted on the site, “Osama Bin Laden has been killed for the eighth time. This seems like an Ekta Kapoor’s soap where people die and get re-incarnated! Where is his body?”

And Jemima Khan, ex-wife of cricketer Imran Khan and British human rights activist, tweeted, “Osama bin Laden’s body tossed into sea...fishy.”

TV actor and IPL anchor Samir Kochhar tweeted, “He was the most wanted man in the world chilling bang in the mid of Pakistan in a million dollar mansion when he was gunned down?? Sounds wrong.”

Politician Omar Abdullah also nursed doubts and tweeted, “Did Pakistan give up OBL or did they get caught out???25 million dollar question.”

Actor Arshad Warsi had a hilarious take and he tweeted, “Nobody is f**king safe in Pakistan not even Osama... Hahaha.”

Tennis player Mahesh Bhupathi also remarked in his Twitter account and posted, “Took ten years for the best intelligence in the World to find him, cant fault a third world country for not knowing he was in their backyard!(sic)”

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
