Osama bin Laden stayed in 5 Pak cities

Islamabad: It was not just his plain luck but also planning that kept Osama bin Laden, the world’s most wanted terrorist, undetected in Pakistan from the prying eyes of top intelligence sleuths and American satellites.
Following are some of the interesting compilations from the Abbottabad Commission report leaked by Al Jazeera news channel as to how world’s dreaded terrorist planned his 10- year undetected stay in the garrison city of Pakistan.
Osama, whose Abbot-tabad abode was bought on fake documents, did not pay property taxes and flouted local building regulations.
The property was bought using a fake national ID card and the third floor was built illegally and the occupants did not pay taxes. The report says, “Either OBL was extremely fortunate to not run into anyone (committed) to doing his job honestly, or there was complete collapse of local governance.
The report also revealed Osama bin Laden lived in at least five different places including Peshawar before finally settling down in Abbottabad in 2005 where he was eventually killed by US Navy SEALs in a covert raid in 2011. He lived in at least six different places over nearly a decade.
That included two places in the tribal areas of western Pakistan as well as Peshawar, Swat and Haripur. Interestingly, members of his family also lived in Karachi and Quetta.
Osama raid due to Pak obsession with india
US Navy SEALs were able to sneak into Pakistan covertly to kill Osama bin Laden because of advanced American stealth technology and the Pakistani military’s obsession with India.
The leaked report of the Abbottabad Commission said India remained the focus of Pakistan’s military “despite a growing US threat including actual border raids, drone strikes, special operations, the spread of a hostile spy network” among others.
“Given the negative developments in the US-Pakistan relations in recent years, there was no basis to limit defence planning to only one front in the east (with India), it said.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
