Officer among 6 Pakistani soldiers killed in bomb blast

Six Pakistani soldiers, including a lieutenant colonel, were killed and two more injured when the vehicle they were travelling in was targeted with a roadside bomb in the Orakzai tribal region on Friday.

An officer was among those killed in the attack in Yakh Kandao area of Orakzai Agency, state-run PTV reported. Other news channels said the officer was a lieutenant colonel. The two injured soldiers were in serious condition, the channels reported.

No group claimed responsibility for the attack. The Pakistani Taliban is active in the region despite an operation carried out by the Army in the restive Orakzai Agency to flush out militants.

Orakzai Agency is considered a stronghold of the Taliban and they regularly target security forces and pro-government tribal elders in the area.

Additional security forces rushed to the area where the blast occurred and launched a search operation. The injured were taken to hospital in Kohat, the main city in the area.
