New ‘floating’ office building keeps workers suspended in air
A Copenhagen-based mortgage bank has come up with a daring design for its office building, where meeting rooms apparently float in mid-air.
Suspended 50ft above the ground, the private conference rooms inside Nykredit’s headquarters building are placed inside hanging boxes clad in dark polished wood.
The ten-storey glass structure is one of the Danish city’s largest office buildings and features a spectacular atrium flooded with natural light providing links to all levels, the Daily Mail reported.
According to the architects, the suspended wooden office rooms help create an ‘open and clean-looking work environment’.
“The most striking part of the design has to be the three suspended meeting rooms that are cantilevered off of the third and fifth floors,” a spokesperson for the company said.
“The building also features glass elevators, balconies, and exposed stairways, creating an open and clean-looking work environment.
“Great care was taken in anticipating how the large glass exterior would capture and hold heat,” the spokesman added.
