Nepal meets Yadav, talks on crisis
Aug. 26: Prime minister Madhav Kumar Nepal on Thursday called on President Ram Baran Yadav and discussed the deepening political crisis in the country due to the repeated failure of the Parliament to elect a new head of government after he resigned around two months back.
The two leaders discussed about the latest political situation and the possible economic crisis Nepal is likely to face as the budget for the new fiscal has not yet been announced due to the failure to elect a new government, according to the Prime Minister’s office.
During the meeting the President enquired about the ongoing political deadlock in the country due to the failure to form a new government. Nepal Parliament is deadlocked over electing a new Prime Minister even as fifth round of the Prime Ministerial elections were held with none of the two candidates getting required 50 per cent plus votes.
The Prime Minister said that he was making every effort to form a new government in order to resolve the ongoing crisis. He said that he tendered resignation on June 30 with the hope that a national consensus would be reached and the political crisis would be resolved.
The Prime minister assured the President that he would soon hold meeting with various political parties to resolve the serious crisis that the country is is likely to face due to the failure of presenting budget on time.
