Nepal to get world’s tallest Shiva statue
The world’s largest Shiva statue, built at the cost of Rs 7 crores near Kathmandu, will be inaugurated on June 21.
Kailashnath Mahadev statue (143 feet) complex at Sanga, located 20-km east of Kathmandu, is spread in 400,000 sq feet area and houses a 16 deluxe room resort, spa, yoga, health club and meditation centre.
It will also includes a children’s park, physiotherapy, steam and sauna bath facilities.
The statue, which is made of cement, concrete and iron is coated with zinc and copper, will be inaugurated by President Ram Baran Yadav. It depicts Lord Shiva carrying a trishul in his hand while a snake is resting on his shoulder.
Swami Madhav Ashramji Maharaj, the Shankaracharya of Badridham, will be present at the inaugural function, according to the organisers. They hope it will give a boost to the tourism sector, the main stay of Nepal’s economy.

Ex-SC judge to head Israel flotilla panel
Jerusalem : Amid mounting international pressure, Israel on Sunday appointed a former Supreme Court judge to head a committee to examine the events surrounding the bloody takeover of the Gaza-bound aid flotilla two weeks ago that led to the death of nine people.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that former Supreme Court justice Yaakov Tirkel will head the Israeli investigative committee that will look into the events surrounding the takeover of the Gaza-bound aid flotilla that left nine Turkish dead on May 31. However, it falls short of meeting demands raised by several countries that Israel inquire the deadly raid by Naval commandos that left nine dead and several wounded. —PTI
