NC asks Maoists, UML to allow it to lead govt
Nepali Congress has asked other political parties, the Maoists and the CPN-UML to allow it to lead a national consensus government as both of them had their chance.
NC acting president Shushil Koirala, who had just returned from his medical treatment in the US, on Thursday told journalists at the Tribhuvan International Airport that the next government should be formed under the leadership of Nepali Congress.
As Unified CPN-Maoist and CPN–UML have already formed governments under their leadership after the Constituent Assembly elections, it is now the turn of the NC to lead the government, Mr Koirala told reporters.
President Ram Baran Yadav had asked the political parties to name consensus candidate for the post of Prime Minister.
The party will take initiative to form government under its leadership, Mr Koirala said. He said that a national consensus government needs to be formed and the Nepali Congress should be allowed to lead such a government.
He asked the Maoists to create an atmosphere of trust by implementing all the past agreements before claiming government leadership. The Maoists cannot claim government leadership as they have not implemented past agreements relating to the peace process. —PTI
