Mitt Romney backs rape comment
White House hopeful Mitt Romney maintained support for fellow Republican Ric-hard Mourdock on Wednesday despite the Senate candidate saying pregnancy from rape is something “God intended.”
“Governor Romney disagrees with Richard Mourdock, and Mour-dock’s comments do not reflect governor Ro-mney’s views,” Rom-ney campaign spokeswoman Andrea Saul said in a statement.
On the other hand, US President Barack Oba-ma said bluntly on Wednesday “rape is rape” in a swipe at Republican politicians who have made a string of controversial comments about women’s health and abortion.
Obama, appearing on NBC’s “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” said that women should be trusted to make their own decisions about their bodies, in consultation with their doctors, and politicians should not intrude.
