Man loses health claim of dead wife after remarrying
A man in Britain whose wife died in an ambulance staff blunder has lost 500,000 pounds of claim against the National Health Service (NHS) because he married his mistress months later, Daily Mail reported.
Nicolas Taaffe, 69, sought up to 500,000 pounds (over $790,000) in compensation from the NHS when his wife died of heart failure days after paramedics, who visited her, decided that she did not need hospital treatment.
But the London High Court turned down his claim for loss of 'love and affection' after it emerged that Taaffe remarried the mother of his 14-year-old lovechild within a year.
Taaffe told the court that he had informed his wife about the affair after it ended in 2000. He added that he was open with her about his lovechild, whom he supported financially and visited regularly.
He claimed having no intention of leaving his previous wife Eleanor before her death.
Judge Sir Robert Nelson awarded him only 119,048 pounds, saying the marriage was ‘exceptionally strained’ and could have ended in divorce.
