Malay girl dies rehearsing suicide scene

George Town, Malaysia: An ethnic Indian schoolgirl died after she accidentally hanged herself while re-enacting a movie suicide scene. Kuhesri Nadarajah, 10, was found hanging from the ceiling fan in her room by her grandfather at about 7.30 pm on Thursday when he returned from prayers.
The Star Friday did not give details of how and why Kuhesri was enacting the movie scene. Neighbours helped to bring the body down before it was sent to the Penang Hospital mortuary.

Nepalese held for rape of granddaughter
Kathmandu: A 46-year-old man has been arrested in western Nepal for the alleged rape of his two-year-old granddaughter, the police said.
Lila Gandharva, a resident of Dorphirdi village in Tanahun district, had smuggled the two-year-old girl inside his house and kept her hidden there for five days before his neighbours came to know of it and reported him to the police.
Mr Gandharva was arrested following the complaint on Wednesday, the police said. —IANS

Afghanistan police kills protester
Surkhrod, Afghanistan: The police shot dead an Afghan protester in eastern Afghanistan on Friday after hundreds of villagers demonstrated against Nato raids which they said killed 11 civilians overnight, a local official said. Crowds of men marched through the streets of Surkhrod district in Nangahar province, with chants like “Death to Americans, Long Live the Taliban” and pelted stones at government buildings before they were fired on by the police. Head of the local provincial council, said that one of the protesters had been shot dead by police gunfire. —Reuters
