Lebanese and Israeli troops clash on border
A senior Lebanese Army officer says Lebanese and Israeli troops have exchanged fire on the border and one Lebanese soldier has been lightly wounded.
The officer says Tuesday’s rare clash occurred in the border town of Aadassi as Israeli troops tried to remove a tree from the Lebanese side of the border.
The officer spoke on condition of anonymity in line with regulations. He says an Israeli tank fired a shell that hit a house in the village after the gunfire.
It’s not clear if there were casualties. The border has been relatively quite since the summer 2006 Israel-Hezbollah war that left 1,200 Lebanese and about 160 Israelis dead. After the 2006 war, the UN deployed 12,000-member peacekeeping force in the area.
