Kayani used coup card
Pakistan’s powerful Army chief, Gen. Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, was the man who cooled down the recent political heat here that threatened to send the PPP-led government packing, official sources said.
“It was a call from GHQ that saved the government. The Opposition was warned of military intervention if it continued to act irresponsibly. He used the coup card to silence all,” a source said.
This is the second time in two years that Gen. Kayani, who got a three-year extension in 2010, has come to the rescue of the fragile ruling coalition.
