The Kashmir girl is not our Madeleine: McCanns

The agony continues for Gerry and Kate McCann as they are sure that a young girl spotted in Leh, the northern most part of India, is not their missing daughter, the couple's spokesman said.

According to the Chandigarh Tribune a British woman had seen a teenager having a resemblance to Madeleine who disappeared four years ago.

However, after studying the girl's photo, the McCanns said she was not their missing daughter.

The spokesman Clarence Mitchell said the they were certain the girl was not Madeleine who would now be eight-years-old.

After seing the photographic evidence, Kate and Gerry McCann did not believe the child seen in India was their Madeleine.

'We are thankful for people's vigilance. Madeleine is still out there and the search for her very much continues,' said the spokesman.

The Chandigarh Tribue said a British woman alerted other tourists after seeing the girl looking like Madeleine.

However, the French woman and her Belgian husband insist that they are the parents of the girl and the Leh Police had taken copies of their passports.

A spokesman for Leh police said, 'It all depends upon the evidence like DNA for which help from Madeleine's parents and the British police was required.'

Madeleine was days short of her fourth birthday when she went missing on a family holiday in Praia da Luz, Portugal, in May 2007.

Maddie's parents marked the fourth anniversary of their daughter's disappearance privately with family and friends.

The couple launched a book titled Madeleine and its proceeds going towards the funding of their search for their missing daughter.

Despite a massive investigation and worldwide publicity, there is no breakthrough in the case.

The official enquiry by the Portuguese into the Madeleine's disappearance was shelved in July 2008. But private detectives hired by the McCanns are continuing with the search.

Mrs McCann said in an interview that the kidnapper might have have drugged her other two children before escaping with Madeleine.

England Prime Minister David Cameron has asked Scotland Yard to carry out a review of the investigation to bring a 'new perspective' to the case.
