Jolie to play Taylor-made role, Pitt is Antony
Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie is all set to portray legendary Egyptian ruler Cleopatra in a new biopic, with partner Brad Pitt playing her lover Mark Antony.
With the 35-year-old beauty in mind, film producer Scott Rudin has purchased the film rights to the upcoming biography of the Queen of the Nile, Cleopatra: A Life, reported USA Today.
Pitt, who raises six children with her, is her co-star.
“The movie is being developed for and with Jolie,” the producer’s office said.
Cleopatra has earlier been played by Elizabeth Taylor, among others, in a lavish 1963 film where her Roman lover Mark Antony was portrayed by Taylor’s real-life love, Richard Burton.
Stacy Schiff, who wrote the new biography due to come out in November, admits that Angelina Jolie would be ideal in the role.
“I think Angelina would be perfect for it and I can see a possible Oscar in her future. For Mark Antony? Brad Pitt. They are the Burton/Taylor of our day, reconciling and breaking up within a day in the tabloids,” Schiff said.
It is learnt the movie will be directed by Steven Soderbergh, of Che fame.
