Japan ex-PM Mori’s son arrested
The son of Yoshiro Mori, former Prime Minister and political heavyweight of Japan’s once-dominant Liberal Democratic Party, was arrested over drunk driving, the police said on Saturday.
Yuki Mori, 45, drove into the glass wall of a store in central Ishikawa prefecture earlier on Saturday, the police said. Officers rushed to the scene and found that he was intoxicated.
“There was no one injured in the incident,” a police spokesman said. The young Mori is a local assembly member in Ishikawa prefecture in his father’s parliamentary constituency.
Mori senior, 73, had long been a powerful politician of the now-opposition LDP and was premier in 2000-01. But his political influence has waned since the LDP was ousted in 2009 by the Democratic Party of Japan.
