Gaddafi's son had ship with shark tank

Slain Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi's son Hannibal, who fled Libya for Algeria as rebels entered Tripoli, owned a luxury 18-deck ship on which there was an imposing glass tank that housed six pet sharks.

The 36-year-old Hannibal, Gaddafi's fourth son, ordered the ship to entertain guests but the 300-million-pound vessel was left unfinished when his father's regime was overthrown, the Daily Mail said.

Hannibal reportedly had two sand tiger sharks, two white sharks and two blacktip reef sharks.

He fled Tripoli in August along with his mother and a sister when rebel troops captured the Libyan capital.

Hannibal wanted the vessel to be called 'Phoenicia' as a tribute to an ancient civilisation that once ruled most of North Africa.

It would have had marble columns, statues, luxury fittings and gold-framed mirrors.

The ship would have also boasted of marble floors, panoramic glass lifts with virtual waterfalls, and glass walkways over the shark aquarium.

Hannibal controlled Libya's maritime industry and ports under his father's rule.

The completed ship has now been sold to a luxury cruise operator by the Korean builder.
