Fake spiritual healer arrested for burying alive newborn baby
Pakistani police arrested a fake 'pir' or spiritual healer and three of his accomplices for allegedly burying alive a newborn baby at a graveyard here to 'get magic powers', officials said today.
"The pir, identified as Majeed Masih alias Toti Saen of Yohanabad, was arrested and produced in court yesterday. The judge remanded him to police custody for four days," Lahore police spokesman Niyab Haider said.
Three of Masih's accomplices too were arrested, Haider said. In an FIR, Muhammad Javed of Nishtar Colony said he and five of his friends were passing through Rehman Town graveyard at midnight on December 1 when they witnessed five men digging a hole and burying a newborn baby. Javed said four of the men fled while he and his friends caught the fifth and handed him over to police.
Javed alleged the fake pir had buried the child alive to "get magic powers". SP (Operations) Malik Muhammad Awais said Masih was yet to confess to his alleged crime. He said three other persons had been included in the investigation.
