Explosion in Karachi: No casualties
A minor explosion near a government registration office and a Red Cross centre here on Saturday sent fears around this Pakistani city, though no one was killed or injured in the blast.
“The explosion was minor in nature and from an indigenous made bomb near the Nadra office on Tipu Sultan road here,” a senior police official said.
DIG east, Tahir Naveed said initially it appeared as if the detonator failed to function properly on the home made explosive device.
The police is investigating the incident to ascertain if the Red Cross office was under threat.
“But we are looking at this incident closely as there is also a Red cross office close to the Nadra office,” Naveed said.
“Given the existing circumstances and threat of terrorism in the city we are investigating to find out if the explosion might not have been some sort of warning for the Red Cross office,” he said.
The explosion sent the people into a state of fear and fright, but there was no loss of life, the police said.
The police on Friday defused a bomb weighing around 20 to 25 kgs which was planted in a cement block next to the wall of a Shia Imambargah in Jinnah hospital residential colony.
