Court warns cop to seize Pervez assets

A Pakistani court on Friday issued a “final warning” to the police to confiscate the property of former military ruler Pervez Musharraf, court officials said.
District and sessions Judge Abbottabad Abdul Mateen Khan had earlier declared Mr Musharraf as absconder in kidnapping case of Ateequr Rehman — official of an intelligence agency — and issued orders for confiscation of his movable and immovable property.
“The court today (Friday) issued last warning for confiscation of property of Pervez Musharraf. The judge has ordered for implementation of the court directive,” a court official said.
“The court warned the police to confiscate the property and submit compliance report within three days or to face stern action,” he added.
The Peshawar high court has also upheld the district court’s decision, another official said. Mr Musharraf in the meanwhile is preparing to make a comeback to Pakistan politics. Sources close to the ousted dictator say that Mr Musharraf is hopeful of winning back the post he lost in 2008.

Zardari gets confiscated wealth back

Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari is all set to get back assets worth billions of rupees that were confiscated by former military ruler Zia-ul Haq in the 1970s. The assets are in the name of President Zardari, his children and Begum Nusrat Bhutto — the mother of two-time Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto.
In a decision handed down in April, the federal sharia court reversed the 1977 orders of Zia-ul Haq to take control over two trusts, founded by Zulfikar Ali Bhutto with the financial support of UAE rulers, owning huge properties in different parts of the country. These trusts were renamed as Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al-Nahyan Trust and Sheikh Sultan Trust.
The court judgment has declared the 1977 martial law orders as repugnant to Islam and has directed the government of Pakistan and its ministries and divisions to return the ownership, properties and assets.
