CBI takes documents from OC office
CBI has collected voluminous documents related to various tenders executed by Commonwealth Games Organising Committee for the mega sporting event.
Official sources said a CBI team had taken all files from the OC office including those related to the appointment of workforce and overlays works carried out by the Games organising body.CBI has registered at least 15 cases related to various irregularities in implementing CWG related works by different civic and construction departments.
Former OC chairman Suresh Kalmadi and secretary general Lalit Bhanot are already in jail in connection with the irregularities. A Special investigation Team of the CBI is looking into all cases of alleged corruption in the conduct of the Games held here between October 3-14 last year."A team of CBI officials made a visit here. They inquired about the tender procedures and verified antecedents of the personnel involved in granting the work to private firms," an OC official said. He said the CBI officers had visited the OC headquarters last week.Sources said the CBI is going through a report by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) on the CWG lapses.
It has already registered a case on the basis of irregularities mentioned in the report. They said the agency officials will investigate all references of corruption mentioned in the report. The Government has constituted a Group of Ministers to study and submit report on the Commonwealth Games irregularities by January next year.
