Briton gets 18-year jail for slitting woman's throat
A jilted British man has been sentenced to 18 years in jail for attempted murder after he slit his lover's throat when she called off their wedding.
Care worker Sandra Cheadle, 42, and Andrew Bailey had been planning to marry in a ceremony inspired by the Hollywood movie 'Pretty Woman' starring Julia Roberts and Richard Gere.
But when she broke off their engagement due to his obsessive jealousy, Bailey, also 42, staged a terrifying ambush in a street near Preston as Cheadle walked to work.
The Preston Crown Court passed the order Friday after a jury heard how he armed himself with a kitchen knife and lay in wait for Cheadle, Daily Mail reported.
He subjected Cheadle to a frenzied attack Oct 13, 2011, as she tried to flee.
Bailey, of Meanygate, Bamber Bridge, was arrested after he was followed by one of the passing motorists as he fled the scene.
