Briton beats cancer, dies an hour later in accident
London, July 16: A Briton was ecstatic when she was told that she had beaten cancer. An hour later she died in a freak accident while driving home to her husband of 44 years.
Jean Allen, 66, had beaten breast cancer and she got the all-clear at a hospital.
She could barely wait to give her husband Frank, 66, and their three daughters the news of her good health.
While driving back home, she had to take a detour to avoid traffic disruption after a church was torched.
Jean went off the road and ploughed into a ditch at Whittlesey, near Peterborough. She was trapped inside and drowned.
"Jean had very little injury at all. Emergency services pulled her car out of the ditch but she was dead. It's all the more heart-breaking because she had just been given the all-clear," The Sun Friday quoted Frank as saying.
He said: "I can't think about it without getting angry. If the fire hadn't happened, my wife would have been here today."
