Assange’s lawyer says NotW hacked his phone records
The Lawyer of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has that he was among the people whose phones were hacked by Rupert Murdoch’s ‘News of the World’.
In a tweet, high-profile lawyer Mark Stephens said he may have been hacked along with other lawyers, and was looking to meet the police over the issue.
Stephens told Britain's Channel 4 News that he contacted Scotland Yard to ask if his phone had been hacked.
“I asked them if I had been hacked. They came back to me in 90 minutes and said yes,” Stephens was quoted, as saying.
“It confirmed my worst suspicions,” he added.
Britain's ‘News of the World’ tabloid was shutdown this month after allegations that its journalists paid the police for information and hacked into the voicemails of people.
