Assange reveals discs containing secret Swiss bank accounts

Wikileaks is now all set to reveal sensitive banking information of over 2,000 prominent people from around the world.

Founder Julian Assange was passed on the information by Rudolf Elmer at a press conference in London today.

Assange showed off two compact discs containing the details at the press event.

The BBC has reported that Elmer 'is scheduled to go on trial in Switzerland on Wednesday for breaking bank secrecy laws'. The banker was reportedly fired from his job in 2002.

The BBC also quoted a Swiss newspaper which said the package of secret accounts also contains information on multinationals, financial firms and wealthy individuals from many countries and covers the a timeline from 1990 to 2009.

Assange has said the information will be out in two weeks and added that some of the data will be handed over to authorities involved in world banking.

"I'm against the system. I know how the system works," said Mr Elmer at the press conference. He said a sophisticated network existed to funnel illicit money into secret offshore accounts.

"I've been there. I've done the job. I know what is the day-to-day business," he said, explaining why he thought it important to identify himself as the source.
